a message for pastors and teachers
God inscribed the 10 Commandments. He is the one to whom we look for the truth. Truth is not relative, but it is very old.
Paraphrased from Exodus 20, the commandments from the Lord are:
1. You shall have no other gods before me
2. You shall not make for yourself any idols
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy
5. Honor your father and your mother
6. You shall not murder
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal
9. You shall not lie
10. You shall not covet.
They are all true, and as Christians who love God, we should obey these true commandments, and we are obligated to tell these truths.
Are you a teacher of the Bible? Are you a pastor, minister, priest, elder, deacon, or teacher? If so, there is great responsibility in telling people the truth in love, no matter how it makes people feel. Teach people God’s standard of holiness, and don’t forget to follow these laws yourselves. Romans 2: 21-24 says:
21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." (NIV)
Please tell them the truth as given by the Lord. Speak of God’s unbelievable love, but don’t forget to use the law to speak to people’s conscience.
Psalm 19:7: “The law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul.”
